Every magnetized object produces a flow of energy between its two poles, positive and negative. Invisible lines of energy known as flux lines exit a magnet from its negative pole, and reenter through the positive pole. This travel is what creates the magnetic field.
A simple magnet, examined with sensors that reveal magnetic force, shows the flux lines flowing around the magnet. But the top and bottom surface of the magnet itself is largely inert, devoid of energy.
A better design would produce magnetic flow across this dead space, instead of only around the edges.
To increase the surface activity, many approaches have been developed: several individual magnets in strips, concentric circles, a checkerboard pattern. Each of these designs multiplied the number of positive and negative poles, to create more lines of force crossing the surface.
But only one design can extend the magnetic field in every direction — to maximize the number of poles and angles for energy flow.
And by producing each segment as an equilateral triangle, with equal-length sides and equal angles, the magnetic field is perfectly uniform over the entire surface.

Every magnetic product in our line uses static (permanent) magnets, for safety and reliability. Our˙ Sleep System use bipole magnets, either singly or in a multiple magnet array. The individual bipole magnets are placed in the Central Support Zone, precisely spaced. This arrangement produces a pattern of magnetic flow (flux lines) between the magnets and creates an uninterrupted field gradient — a landscape of peaks and valleys of magnetic energy that is considered ideal for a sleep surface.
In magnetic pads, use of a single bipole magnet also allows for an optimum field gradient.

Why the difference is important
There are two ways to produce a strong (attractive) magnetic field — with a static magnet, or an electromagnet. With both types, the magnetic field is created when the atoms within the object are aligned, that is, pointing in the same direction.
 Static magnets
A static or permanent magnet is a solid material (usually metal) that has intrinsic magnetism. It can be a natural magnet — such as the iron-rich rock known as lodestone — or it can be an iron-containing object that has been treated to align its internal structure. A static magnet retains its magnetism permanently. Refrigerator magnets and horseshoe magnets are simple examples. Static magnets are available in a variety of strengths.
Electromagnets
An electromagnet relies on an electric current to produce the magnetic field. Switch the electricity on, and it aligns the atoms, producing the magnetic field. Switch the current off, and the device loses its magnetism. This ability to turn on and off a magnetic field at will has its advantages, and strong electromagnets are often used in industrial applications as lifting agents.
 Electromagnetic discharge or noise
Because electricity can create a magnetic field, this effect is found in many objects that use electricity. Electric motors, electronic devices (including cell phones and personal computers) and high-voltage power lines produce a magnetic field.
This alternating (instead of constant) field is responsible for what is called electromagnetic noise. Many scientists and medical authorities consider electromagnetic noise to be potentially harmful to human health.
Others disagree. Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate this issue, and at present there is no universal consensus on their interpretation. But almost all will endorse the statement that there is more to be learned before we can know for sure whether electromagnetic noise poses a health hazard.
Nikken uses only static magnets
All magnetic Nikken products rely solely on static magnets. This applies equally to all Nikken magnetic technologies, including those featuring Magnetic Biaxial Technology, a patented innovation that produces an active magnetic field using static magnets. No Nikken product uses electricity to induce a magnetic field.
The safety record of static magnets is well established. Some manufacturers promote personal magnetic devices that operate by electromagnetism, but Nikken does not.
Magnetic Biaxial Rotation is literally revolutionary. It works in a way that no other magnetic product or device can, because it produces an active magnetic field using static magnets.
How is this possible? Magnetic Biaxial Rotation uses a revolving magnet, that also rotates on a second axis. The magnetic field constantly changes its angle, as much as 25 times per second. This shifts the direction of magnetic polarity at high speed, at all angles ˜ producing a field that is dynamic rather than stationary.
This creates three-dimensional movement of the field. No other magnetic device can achieve this effect.
